This class will provide a crash course in Project Management theory and practice, with a special focus on software development in an academic research context. After a decade of managing interdisciplinary research projects and training Project Managers, the Center for Digital Humanities (CDH) has long been Princeton's go-to place to learn about best practices in Project Management.
In this one-day intensive workshop, CDH Project Manager Mary Naydan will cover major approaches to Project Management (Waterfall, Agile, Lean); essential concepts, frameworks, and techniques (RACI, MoSCoW, Gantt charts); and specific tools and platforms (GitHub, Asana, Slack, Google Drive). You will learn about the foundational documents, rhythms, and workflows the CDH uses to communicate progress on projects and build resilient teams, from project charters and decision logs to team meetings and retrospectives. Whether you are currently managing a project or just interested in learning more about the field, this workshop will help you better understand the unique contribution you can make to projects through the Project Manager role.
