This mini-workshop is intended primarily for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the Elmer Adler Book Collecting Prize, though all who are interested in book(-ish) collecting and collections are invited to join the conversation. Participants will examine a selection of "materials from the Library's Special Collections" and trace a history of collecting interests and practices over time using both historical and contemporary examples of books, prints, ephemera, etc. We will also review the submission guidelines for the 2025 Adler Prize (deadline is Friday, February 21). This workshop is open to all, whether you are an Adler Prize entrant, a seeker of inspiration for a future submission, or someone simply curious about book(-ish) collecting. No book collecting experience is necessary!

Meet the Facilitator: Molly Dotson is the Graphic Arts Librarian in PUL Special Collections. She encourages the study and teaching of books as visual records with a particular focus on illustration and design.
