Ever wonder about the who, what, why of the Dewey Decimal System? Or why Firestone Library uses something entirely different? Jump into library classification with Princeton University Library’s very own Steven Knowlton and Natalie Lau. Join us to learn more about who creates the systems that libraries use to organize their collections and why the collections get sorted the way they are. Never wonder again and become a pro at locating books amongst the millions of materials held within Firestone Library!

Meet the facilitator: Steven Knowlton is Librarian for History and African American Studies at Firestone Library. He has published a number of highly-cited articles about classification and subject access to library materials, and serves as chair of several subdivisions of the American Library Association. Natalie Lau is Library Collections Specialist IV in the Microforms Service at the Princeton University Library. She has a Bachelor of Science in Evolutionary Anthropology and a Master of Information, Library and Information Science from Rutgers University- New Brunswick.
