Focus on Future You(s) is a 3-part workshop series for PhD candidates in natural sciences and engineering who have completed their general exams. In this series, you will self-reflect, identify your professional interests and future possibilities, and come away with lots of affirmation, allies, and approaches! Participants of this program will receive a copy of "Next Gen PhD: A Guide to Career Paths in Science" by Melanie V. Sinche.

Learning goals:
You will learn and discuss how to-
- identify pathways that resonate with you,
- build and leverage connections to explore options,
- develop and translate skills and experiences for multiple future/s
- create goals and plans for professional development and lifelong learning
Part 1:
In the first part, you will reflect on purpose and meaning in your past and present professional life to extrapolate future professional paths that will fulfil you. Further, using ideation, group problem-solving, and design-thinking methods, you will create multiple “future you” scenarios under variety of circumstances and material conditions.

In the third part, leverage storytelling to translate and communicate breadth of skills and experiences developed through PhD training. Learn how to leverage resources in Princeton including GradFUTURES for professional development. Set goals and develop your individualized plan for variety of future possibilities and paths. The series will wrap with a group discussion and AMA with Dean Majumdar. Participants can schedule further discussions in 1-1 office hours with Dean Majumdar.

Part 2: In the second part, you will learn ways to research professions by mining job descriptions and talking to graduate alumni and other professionals in fields of interest. Researching professions will involve learning about skills and experiences that are desired in various occupations, broadening your outlook of the value of graduate training in the workforce. Forging connections with graduate alumni (e.g. through the GradFUTURES Mentorship program and other graduate alumni engagement opportunities) can provide access to diverse mentors.
