The City Treks career exploration program provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to connect with employers and alumni working in high-demand industries. On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, eight groups of 10-15 students will travel to New York City to visit two organizations from the same industry. The structure of the day enables students to compare and contrast different work environments, missions, and industry roles, as well as make real connections with alumni and industry experts. All Treks will take place in New York City. Transportation will be provided for students leaving from campus.
The Fashion and Beauty Trek will visit Estée Lauder Companies and Tombolo. The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) are the global leader in prestige beauty — delighting consumers with transformative products and experiences, inspiring them to express their individual beauty. ELC are the only company focused solely on prestige makeup, skin care, fragrance and hair care with a diverse portfolio of 25+ brands sold in approximately 150 countries and territories. Infused throughout their organization is a passion for creativity and innovation — a desire to push the boundaries and invent the unexpected — as it continues the bold work of the founder Estée Lauder. On this visit, students will learn about the marketing, creative, and commercial aspects of the organization.
Tombolo is a direct-to-consumer clothing brand specializing in unisex resortwear characterized by original artwork and nostalgic flair. Tombolo's Office houses their Creative, Marketing, Strategy, and Customer Relations teams all in one, while their Flagship store at 208 Mott reflects the brand ideology and messaging, displaying the majority of their product offering in a unique, experiential store. During the site visit, students will have the opportunity to tour both the Office and Flagship, meeting with the co-founders and managers of the operations, brand marketing, design, customer experience, and customer relations departments. Students will also be able to have an extended conversation with Tombolo's alumni, offering an opportunity to learn more about the fashion and e-commerce industry, the creative world of a DTC startup, and the transition from Princeton to the Fashion world.
As a Wintersession offering, registration for City Treks is first-come, first-served beginning on December 11. All interested students must fill out a registration form and will receive an update on their status (registered, waitlisted, declined) on a rolling basis through December 22nd. Accepted and alternate students will also need to attend a short, virtual orientation session prior to the trip.
**NEW WINTERSESSION TRIPS NO-SHOW PENALTY**
Given the limited number of trips available, the long waitlists for trips, and the significant investment of resources to make trips possible, trip registrants who are no-shows and did not cancel their registration with wintersession@princeton.edu at least 72 hours in advance of their trip will be charged $50 via their student account.
The only cancellations that will be accepted within 72 hours prior to the trip without the penalty fee must include a doctor’s note. Otherwise the $50 no-show fee will be charged.
**ALL TRIP ATTENDEES MUST COMPLETE THE Wintersession 2024 Trip Assumption of Risk and Release Form: https://forms.gle/sVJEW8cUAzenypwd6 If you are attending multiple trips, you only need to complete the waiver once.**
