Dr. Gholdy Muhammad, award-winning author of Cultivating Genius: An Equity Model for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy, is an internationally known speaker and Professor of Literacy, Language, and Culture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, Dr. Muhammad was named among the top 1% of Edu-Scholar Public Influencers and has over two decades of experience as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, district administrator, curriculum director, school board president, and college professor. Dr. Muhammad’s research interests include Black historical excellence in education and curriculum theory. Her newest book, Unearthing Joy, a sequel to Cultivating Genius, provides a practical guide for putting culturally and historically responsive education into practice.
