On January 26th, at 1pm, the Pace Center at Princeton University will hold a workshop aimed at introducing students to the tried-and-true methods of community organizing and activism, with a focus on the work of guest speaker Alessandra Orofino, a renowned activist from Brazil. The event, held for three hours, will equip participants with the tools and knowledge they need to make a difference in their communities - at a time when countries around the world show a pressing need for effective pro-democracy community organizing and activism.
With Orofino's guidance, attendees will learn about the various tools and techniques that are effective in community organizing, such as forming partnerships and coalitions, building power, and developing leaders. They will also gain insight into the successes and challenges of activism by hearing about Orofino's experiences and the work she has done in Brazil. Additionally, the workshop will cover the opportunities and challenges presented by the rapid advances in technology, such as the spread of misinformation and the erosion of privacy and how to navigate them in an effective and responsible manner.
Interactive in nature, the event will allow for participants to ask questions, engage in discussions, and work on practical exercises that will help them apply the knowledge and skills learned to their own communities. Ultimately, the goal is to empower participants to make a real impact in the world by learning from a leading expert in the field of community organizing and activism, including understanding the new challenges and opportunities of the digital era.
