*Outdoor Technical Skills is optional if you are planning to lead campus-based trips.*
If you are interested in hiking and camping in the outdoors, there are a variety of skills you need to learn to run a good trip. This course will cover things including how to plan a hike, what equipment you should bring, how to navigate with a map and compass, how to set up a tent or tarp for sleeping, water purification, outdoor cooking and more. The Leave No Trace portion of the course focuses on building your ethic of sustainability in the outdoors to ensure that the wilderness we all love is treated with respect.
This workshop is two half-days of classroom and outdoor activities.
Completion of this course satisfies the OA Leader Training Technical Skills requirement, and is a requirement for participating in Basecamp and Backpacking Leader Training Trips.
