When you register for Day 1, you will automatically be registered for Day 2. 

Learning to Lead Climb Indoors is a great next step in building your climbing skills and prepare you for Sport Lead Climbing outside. This course will teach you the proper techniques for lead belaying and lead climbing indoors.

The class will focus on:
  • Belaying: how to spot, belay, and catch a lead climber
  • Leading: how to climb the sharp end of the rope managing risk
  • Clipping: how to avoid back clipping and Z-clipping
  • Positioning: how to clip efficiently in a variety of positions
  • Falling: how to position yourself to fall with the lowest risk 
Following successful completion of the class you will be eligible to take the Lead Climbing Certification Test and/or the Lead Belaying Certification Test to be able to Lead Climb at the OA Wall during scheduled Lead Climbing Open Hours.

Prerequisites: You must be Belay Certified at the Climbing Wall and be capable of indoor top rope climbing at the 5.8 level or above.

The Lead Climbing Class is available for Princeton University students, faculty, and staff. Official Princeton University photo ID required.

In order to register, you must fill out the Climbing Wall Use Agreement and have an OA Climbing Wall Belay Certification.
  • Until you fill out the Climbing Wall Use Agreement, you will receive the following message: "Sorry, this event is open to specific members only. You will not be able to register for this event." After you fill out the form, you may need to wait up to 60 minutes, then refresh the website and you should be able to register.
Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Stadium restrooms are closed from approximately Fall Break through Spring Break. 
  • When the stadium restrooms are closed, the nearest restrooms are in Jadwin Hall and Jadwin Gym. 
  • The nearest ADA and gender inclusive restrooms are in Jadwin Hall on the A level near the loading dock and in the Frick Chemistry Lab on the B level. 
  • The climbing wall is accessible up a flight of stairs. To request ramp access, call 609-258-7699 during climbing wall operating hours. If outside of wall operating hours, contact oa@princeton.edu or call 609-258-6230 M-F 9am-5pm 1-2 business days in advance of anticipated use.
