Details

A young reporter is sent to the Russian countryside to investigate strange happenings in an out-of-the-way village. He stays with a mourning family who refuses to utter the name of their recently deceased patriarch until he has rested for nine days, but finds himself witness to supernatural happenings when the name of the departed passes the lips of the family’s youngest member. Inspired by an early short story by Lev Tolstoy, this brooding film puts a modern spin on a lesser-known work by a literary giant in its exploration of superstition in the Soviet Union’s provinces. Runtime 77 minutes.
