Planning a Film

This session will discuss origin of ideas for films: what can inspire to tell a story? Prakash Jha will share his journey in the world of cinema, including his progression from a documentary to commercial cinema. He will discuss films that draw upon real world events, such as "Gangaajal" (2003), based on Bhagalpur blinding incidents in Bihar between 1979 to 1980, as well as adapting literary works.

Writing a Screenplay

What is drama in a story? This workshop will feature practical hands on aspects of screenplay writing. Prakash Jha will discuss the art of writing for the screen, and scenes from his movies will be discussed in class.

In these two modules, Jha will discuss the process of shooting a film in preproduction, production and postproduction, such as location, cast, lighting, camera, editing, music, sound design, mixing, and more. In addition, he will also screen some of the exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of his acclaimed films to give students an introduction to the entire process of shooting a film.
