Details

The overwhelming electoral defeat of Viktor Orban and his Fidesz party was widely expected, but still surprising and sends shock waves across the world. Was it as many believe an assertion of a deep commitment of democracy, was it generated by dislike of corruption, or inflation, or bad economic performance, was it a rejection of Russia and United States influences, was it a victory of a European ideal, or an assertion of the Hungarian claim to self-determination? The panelists will assess this debate, and the implications for Europe and the world.

Organized by the Program in Contemporary European Politics and Society (EPS) at the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS).
Co-sponsored by the European Union Program at Princeton and the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD).
