Yan Xuetong delves into three core questions regarding contemporary international affairs: What is the core difference between China-U.S. competition today and the U.S.-Soviet rivalry during the Cold War? Why does China behave differently from Russia? To better understand the dynamics of the US-China relationship and prospects for cooperation and dialogue, it is crucial to compare and contrast it with the previous U.S.-Soviet rivalry. He also identifies the preconditions for a new Cold War and examines them in the context of the current China-U.S. relationship.
