This presentation investigates the impact of homeownership on civic engagement in Hong Kong. Based on the analysis of two waves of data from the Hong Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics (HKPSSD, 2015-2018), the presenter shows that, compared with renters, homeowners are more likely to engage in a range of civic activities, including both electoral voting and social protests. The research contributes to understanding the social and political consequences of homeownership, with significant implications for housing policies to promote homeownership in Hong Kong and beyond.
