At a time when a turbulent political climate, corporate consolidation, and the global pandemic have presented enormous challenges for independent presses, Princeton University Press and the GESEI research group for independent publishing are hosting a conference to discuss the current state of publishing in Latin America this April. Over the course of three days, we will convene editors from each area of the literary ecosystem (independent publishers, university presses, and transnational publishing houses) and from across Latin America (México, Argentina, Uruguay, Perú, and Brazil) and Spain to engage in a lively discussion about the joys and challenges of producing literature in Latin America. Events will consist of a plenary session and four roundtable discussions in which we will discuss: gender and publishing, future and accessibility, independence, and politics and censorship. The conference will be a space for participants to share their experiences in publishing and reflect on their editorial strategies in light of the ever-shifting literary landscape.
