Did you ever want to learn how to build infrastructure in the cloud, but you don’t know how to get started? This mini session will focus on introducing Azure DevOps, git repos, build/ release pipelines, to create infrastructure in the cloud via Terraform. The session will also introduce Azure cloud resources and how they can be combined to create cloud-based applications. Finally, this session will demonstrate a cloud native application that OIT has deployed, lessons learned, and what’s next for OIT cloud efforts. After attending this session, participants will be able to use Azure DevOps in their own Infrastructure as Code (IaC) projects to deploy, update, and destroy Azure cloud resources.

Meet the facilitators:
Jason Rappaport – DevOps Engineer within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services department of OIT. Although an OIT rookie (only 4 years of services thus far), Jason has an extensive IT background primarily in higher education (~18 years), but also experience working for corporations and government agencies. Education includes a Master's degree in Information Systems and a MBA from Drexel University, and also a bunch of certifications along the way. Personally, enjoys long walks with his dog and taking stuff apart with no intention of putting it back together.

Simon Fairey – Lead DevOps Engineer within the Enterprise Infrastructure Services department of OIT. Even more of an OIT rookie (only 2 years of service thus far), Simon has worked in IT for both public and private sector organisations in the UK for over 30 years and in 2019 moved to the US. His focus for the last 10+ years has been on DevOps and Azure architecture. With a Masters in Computer Aided Engineering but no OWLs from Hogwarts he still likes to perform magic in the cloud!
