Dog Training with Diana - Section A

Would you like to develop a closer bond with your pet? Maybe teach your dog to shut doors and turn off lights? Or just to encourage less pulling on the leash? How about teaching your cat to give you a high 5? This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of "clicker" training with some fun applications. We'll start with how to "load the clicker" (Pavlov's classical conditioning), and then move into capturing, targeting, and shaping behaviors (operant conditioning). All lessons involve 100% positive reinforcement. Leave your own pets at home for this session so we can focus on the star of the show, Princess Diana. Diana is a rescue who is mostly Doberman, with a natural tail and natural ears. She'll show us what she knows, and we'll apply our own lessons in the class to advance her learning right before our very eyes!

Meet the facilitator:
James Raymond Vreeland is a professor of politics and international affairs in the Politics Department and the School for International and Public Affairs. He joined Princeton in 2018 after a decade of teaching at Georgetown and another decade at Yale. He did his PhD at NYU. Dog training is his hobby. Dogs and dog training have always been a big part of his life. He has done volunteer work at shelters and rescues, and in 2016, he completed the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Foundations course.
