This workshop will introduce you to the brilliant and enigmatic world of Emily Dickinson. You will be introduced to her through basic known biographical facts, by exploring the content and imagery of some of her poems, through ongoing speculation and debate about her love life, and lastly, by the series of events that led to her posthumous discovery and publication. Topics will include The Dickinsons of Amherst, Col. Thomas Wentworth Higginson, The Todds of Amherst, The "War Between the Houses", Harvard University, Amherst College, the Jones Library in Amherst, MA, and the Emily Dickinson Museum.

Meet the facilitator:
Gina Holland is the Undergraduate Program Manager for the Department of Economics. In various roles at Princeton since 2008, you may know her from the Program in Applied and Computational Mathematics or Richardson Auditorium. Gina recently completed her Masters of Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she studied Diversity and Equity in Education. Co-Mom to two girls (16 and 6!) with her wife Maxine, Gina loves to read, sing, write, and listen to poetry podcasts. She recently took a weekend sojourn with her 16-yr old to the newly restored Emily Dickinson Museum, where her excitement in meeting the 180-year-old oak tree that knew Emily certainly rivaled that of any Harry Styles fan at Madison Square Garden. In addition to this, Gina loves pop music, The Office, and in particular, female poets including Edna St. Vincent Millay, Wendy Cope, and Sylvia Plath. Emily Dickinson, however, is the supreme muse that continues to delight 150 years after death.
