Series Overview:
Offering 10 unique sessions, the Inclusive & Intercultural Leadership learning cohort's primary goal is to prepare graduate students with inclusive leadership skills they can apply now and in the future. Leaders with this skillset apply intercultural awareness to build and sustain inclusive cultures at every level within our institutions, organizations, and communities. Understanding and applying inclusive and intercultural leadership principles is critical for individual leadership development, effective team-building, collaboration, communication, and conflict resolution. In addition to expert facilitator-led sessions, prominent guest speakers and leaders from across industry and academia will share personal stories, practical strategies, and how they promote intercultural awareness and empower inclusive teams.

Institutional Diversity and Inclusion Specialist

Princeton University

Farheen Choudhary joined the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity in 2021. In her role as the Institutional Diversity and Inclusion Specialist, she designs, delivers and manages learning opportunities for academic units and is responsible for the development and implementation of a multi-year professional development action plan to address the University’s recommendations to strengthen diversity and inclusion related professional development across academic departments. Before Princeton, Farheen founded and led a professional development start-up specializing in leadership development and diversity and inclusion training, and she has served as adjunct faculty since 2011 at Rider University and Middlesex County College teaching Diversity and Inclusion Management and Public Speaking. She is passionate about mentorship for marginalized groups, and serves as a mentor at the Women’s Leadership Council at Rider University. Farheen earned her undergraduate degree in Business and Communication from Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, and her Master’s degree in Organizational Communication from Rutgers University. Outside of Princeton, Farheen serves as the Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce, and she enjoys going to Denmark to visit her family and friends.

In this inaugural leadership role, Senior Associate Dean Eva Kubu provides strategic vision and oversees the Graduate School's priority to make professional development an intrinsic and transformative part of graduate education at Princeton. She and her team spearheaded the GradFUTURES® campus-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive model of interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities designed to prepare all Ph.D. and master's students with the skills and competencies they need for academic and career success. Eva has more than two decades of leadership experience within the field of career and professional development. Before joining the Graduate School, Eva served as Director of Career Services at Princeton where she helped lead a structural reimagination and major expansion of the career center serving all undergraduates, graduate students, and alums. A first-generation college student, she has dedicated her career in higher education to creating systems and structures that promote professional development, build social capital, and ensure equitable access to opportunity for all students. Eva holds an M.S. in higher education administration from Drexel University, a B.A. in psychology from Rutgers University, and a mini-MBA certificate in social media marketing from Rutgers Business School.

Associate Provost for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion

Shawn Maxam is Associate Provost for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion. In this role, he leads strategic partnerships and projects associated with campus climate, academic departments, data analysis, and history and sense of place, among others. Shawn joined the Provost Office in 2016 as an Assistant Director. He previously served as the Prevention Coordinator for Men’s Initiatives in Princeton’s University Health Services from 2014 to 2016. Shawn is deeply committed to board service and educational non-profits. He serves as a trustee for the Princeton-Blairstown Center and the Lawrence Township Education Fund. Shawn earned his BFA from Long Island University and two Masters degrees from Bryn Mawr College in Social Service and Law & Social Policy.
