Session Description

The increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters and extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and wildfires, pose significant challenges to the insurance industry. Recent examples, including Hurricane Helene (USD 10+ billion in insured losses) and the LA region wildfires (potentially exceeding USD 30 billion in insured losses), highlight the growing risks. This seminar will discuss how climate change is impacting the insurance sector and the wider community, exacerbating the existing protection gap between economic and insured losses.

The discussion will explore the critical role of insurance as a financial resilience instrument in a changing climate landscape. As climate-related risks continue to grow, we will examine the pressing issues of availability and affordability of insurance, and how the industry can adapt to support individuals and businesses in managing these increasing perils.

Gain insights into the complex interplay between climate change, risk management, and sustainable insurance solutions, and explore potential strategies for building resilience in the face of a rapidly changing climate. This will be an interactive discussion session.
