This workshop introduces researchers to AI coding agents, such as Claude Code and Codex, as tools for research assistance in the social sciences. These agents work directly inside a project, editing files and running code, in ways that raise the same reliability questions as a human research assistant. A well-structured project can keep an agent's work inspectable through version control, written instructions, and automated checks that separate unreviewed from human-approved work. I will demonstrate structuring a project this way, with a short discussion of common failure points and the practices that catch them before they reach a final product. By the end, attendees will be able to set up a project for agent-assisted research and be comfortable applying best practices for instructing, validating, and reviewing an agent's work.
