Instructor: Eric Manning, Research Data Engineer, Data-Driven Social Science

With a few basics, researchers can easily scale projects to handle many larger-than-memory data tasks without the need of a cluster. This bootcamp introduces SQL for social scientists, with a focus on DuckDB – a portable, fast, and scalable database engine for data analysis. We’ll introduce basic SQL syntax, learn to integrate DuckDB (and other SQL engines) into existing R or Python workflows, and discuss topics such as ingesting messy data, geospatial data processing, performance and troubleshooting, and useful extensions (packages) for social scientists.
